A guy in a Merc AMG SLK 55 (or whichever way you put those letters) let me out on the dual carriageway and we played up to 100kph.
They have loads of torque and they sound awesome at around the 100kph mark, very throaty and v. loud.

I take it you never saw which way he went Chris. Lotus drivers never seem to mention the result of their straight line playing
Not a fan of Mercs but they do make nice engines

He did leave me as we went above 100kph, but I'm not sure how much was to do with the car Craig compared to my right foot hesitancy.
Above 100kph I'd expect the 5.5L engine to destroy me.

0-60 there's not a lot in it, after that it really does start pulling away quite quickly from a 111R. At the corners/roundabouts it's hillarious though, I can make probably 50m on an SL55 on the approach to a roundabout, such is the difference in mass.

I've been in these.
The guy probably had it in drive. Had he thrown it in sports it pulls like a bitch. I got shit scared when my uncle floored his hehe. Great fun.

Just spotted this thread while trawling for antoher one.
I was in one of my Impreza's next to a 55AMG and I though I was going to get a punishing. We both when for it from about 30 mph and I can honestly say I have NEVER been so destroyed by anything in all my life. It was like I was going backwards - and I had near 300 bhp in that car.
All I heard was a huge roar and that was it.
Totally stunned I was!
The Evo wouldnt have kept up with that I dont think...

I really want a '55 engined Merc. I'd probably prefer the SL as they're a bit more butch. The wheels on both the SLK and SL AMG's are horrid, and they are still the wrong side of 40k for a decent one.

Despite the fact that these sort of cars really don't appeal to me, I'd really like an SLK 55 AMG one day
Must be the engine sound.
I think the McClaren SLR is nasty though.
