While it's worse in France, it's not even double, 4,275 vs 2,538 in 2008, which is 1.68x for the geeks amongst you.

Some other useful stats here: http://www.internationaltransportforum.org...d/datasets.html
France numbers first
By user type
Pedestrian deaths: 548 (12.8%); 572 (22.5%)
Bicyclists: 148 (3.5%); 115 (4.5%)
Motorised 2 wheeler: 1,086 (25.4%); 493 (19.4%)
Car occupants: 2,205 (51.6%); 1,257 (49.5%)
By road type (GB is 2007 data)
Road outside urban areas: 3,040 (71.1%); 1,997 (67.8%)

No, you were wrong. It happens to all of us eventually
PS just to rub salt in, I got that link via Google and Wikipedia
To be fair, France has improved considerably in the past 10 years (47% reduction since 2000, compared to 25% here). All those 5 Star NCAP Renos along with the more stringent speed enforcement I guess.
Add in the generally higher standard of living here which means we got sfaer cars before the French, and the pride taken in our cars, and that certainly explains a bit of it.

Nothing wrong with Google and Wikipedia if they provide a route to decent info
The problem starts when people think they are the source of decent info
