Well, that "suffered enough" line is a bit corny, I grant you...
I don't know, I can't say it bothered me when the story first broke. I simply heard them say he'd done 159mph and thought: "Good lad!" because I knew it would wind up the Guardianistas, purely because they see a speed in excess of 23mph and get all hot under the collar. The idiots.
The fact that he wasn't officially on duty doesn't bother me either, because no one goes out for a joyride in a Vectra (FFS!) at 3am! He might not have been doing it by the correct channels but he was clearly evaluating the car for work purposes at a time he thought presented the least risk to members of the public. I don't think he should lose his job for that, or be thrown in prison
