Default Off to the Monaco GP! - Any advice?

30th Birthday present has landed me with a long weekend in Nice / Monaco with race day tickets in grandstand K.

As this is my first ever visit to a GP race, what do I need to know? Get there early? ear defenders needed? Any way to get commentary? Anything Monaco specific? Recommended places to eat?

Thanks!
A.

Earplugs are for pussies.

Monaco's a great place, and I'd love to visit during the race weekend. It's not anywhere near as expensive as you'd think for food and drink. La Rascasse is a nice bar to visit and is right where Schumi made an arse of himself last year.

Think I'll be taking some earplugs, just in case.

Have been to the Monaco GP twice now and Nice lots of times (just back from the Monaco car show on monday)

For the GP & Monaco:

-Ear protection is given away free... you will need it

-Drinks etc inside the track (you will see what i mean when you get there) is normal prices few Euros for a beer etc

-Step outside the track its a drifferent matter 10+ euro for a drink

-The best place to go is Stars & Bars at the habour, it beside the Motorhomes. (Look for the redbull one and its behind it usually) Drinks and food here are cheap its a great atmosphere and the staff are great.

- To get to and from Monaco the you have a choice of train/boat/helicopter. Don't rule out the Helicopter its only 50euro but you have to get to Nice airport. The Train takes 30mins and is about 7euro. The boat is longer (about an hour) but a great way to see the coastline... also when i got off it last time i was standing beside JK from Jamariquai (sp)

- There is a MacDonald in Monaco for a quick snack.

- Before & After the race take a walk around the track and thro the tunnel, there will be plently of rich boy racers flying about in all sorts of amazing cars

- The gumball rally finished on the sat night when i was there last time, check it its on and head to casino square for around 6-7ish ... amazing!

Nice

- Drinking rose on the beach is fun

- book a table here http://www.evenement-club.com/

- If you want to go to a bar in which ladies dance... try La Suite

- Stay away from the hookers ;o)

ALso very very important:

Saturday night is party night in both Monaco and Nice. Sunday night both places are totally dead... do not make the mistake one of my friends did, and "save your self for the sunday" it doesn't work like that

Stars and Bars is pretty good.

The bar food is quite nice too and atmosphere inside is particularly good. Really busy though. I take it Pataya is closed during the GP? It's normally really nice for lunch as they have those fans that shoot out water vapour at you. Their cocktails are dynamite too, and not too expensive.

I take it you've been to La Rascasse at night, Crispy? Upstairs is really cool and comfortable with great couches and decent funk/disco music. It's open till well after the trains to Nice start again so it's great for just staying out till sunset, before getting the train home and getting breakfast delivered to your room.

The Steak in there has to be some of the best I have ever tasted

Prices are fairly reasonable also.

I thought the steak in most of the restaurants over there was astounding. The French (and the Monaco...nians) are better than us.
