Default Notice of intended prosecution

Caught doing 83mph in a 70mph zone with a mobile radar.

They asked me to confirm my details.

Driving the porker attracts this kind of grievance every time.

What should the next course of action be please?

Never had one.

I got an 83 in a 70 just the other week on the M80 south of Stirling. (Schoolboy error as I sped up coming out of the 40mph average speed cameras in the roadworks and fell for their "camera van a mile up the road" wheeze)

Assuming the evidence is incontrovertible, fill in the NIP and just hope they make you a conditional offer of 3 points and a Fixed Penalty Notice (£60). I can't see them needing you in court for that speed.

I was chauffeuring my mother to a funeral in Perth in her Toyota Auris, which makes me think it's more the driver than the car that's usually to blame ...

I believe if you were doing 30 over the posted speed its a court appearance but at that should be 3 points and fine.

Don't forget that all car speedometers are set to deliberately over-read.

So your clocked true 83mph was probably showing close to 90.

So you can't claim you didn't know.

Good luck

Assuming you mean you got caught by a camera van and not stopped by officers ...

Under 96mph ... it should be a conditional offer - 3 points and £60 ...

If you refuse that and opt to go to court it will probably be higher and include a 'victim surcharge' or at least that's what I think they call it

You could always chuck it in the bin and pretend you never received it!

Do they run a 'naughty school' up there?
If you qualify then you may even be offered a speed awareness course.

I did one recently, poor show and largely a missed opportunity on the part of the police, but hey anything is better than the endorsement.

My speeding 'crime' was - 38mph

in a local Norwich honey trap, Grapes Hill, 30mph.

Resulted in my attending a speed awareness course at Dereham in April.

Although I think you can chose to attend anywhere in the country that suits you. Good luck!

edit: I did ring them up, it's a sub department of the local county council. They were quite happy to explain the criteria over the phone, as a result of which I was fairly sure that an offer to attend a course would be coming my way and sent off their form. I did stress the over tens years clean licence blah blah. Of course if they have some more tickets for you, it's curtains
