As some of you will know we have been looking to replace my wife's RAV4 T180 and have started looking at the PCP / hire, etc, deals that are out there of which some are very good.

Most of the dealers we have visited are trying to push the paint protection package which is around £500 - £600 and the interior protection pack too which is roughly another £500.

The likelihood is that we would end up keeping the car after 3 years and paying whatever is left so we wouldn't be penalised if there were any scratches, dents, etc, not that I would really want them on what would be a 3 year old car but never the less car park dings, etc, can't always be avoided.

Is it worth adding these options on to the package or am I better saving the money and spending on something else?

Any sort of supaguard style wax/ sealant treatments is over priced. Best off getting a a good detailing package.

I'm a fan of venture shield products though they also overpriced. I regretted not having my r35 delivered with that. After a year the whole front end looked blasted, but that was probably as most of its life was spent on high speed country roads.

For a DD no, you will need someone who knows how to put on these protectors without cutting into paint etc as I'm sure there are sloppy installers.

ALL my S2000's looked like a shotgun had been at the front of them.
I inherited Venture Shield on my first Vantage, it was a revelation!
So much so I got S2knut to detail the next one from new and then applied the full kit
2years and 13k miles on and the only stone chips are out side the film area
Cost me £900 for the full kit and full bonnet installed
I'd do it on a DD if I was keeping it
I'd use the new self healing stuff on any of my new cars

It depends on how anal you are about your paintwork I guess.

I am so I asked Xd (Tango) to sort Wifey's new DS3 (it's black so would really do my head in once swirled). He did a full machine polish and then finished it off with a GTechniq sealant. It's a lacquer that is chemical and swirl resistant. worth the money IMHO.

The GTechniq is what I used on Lee's (Earls_f20c) car just recently and is a superb product, won't protect against stone chips though .. I didn't realise you were talking about venture sheild Martin, I know Mikey likes the stuff .... maybe it's a good choice if prevention of stone chips is the aim ... ... NUT is now getting stone chipped once again but this would be the the third summer since the last spray job with a cost of 400 quid ... which including the nose trimming etc. I suspect I could get the front resprayed for £300 this time around but it's not too bad at the moment probably good for another year or two.
