Need to transport classic car 300 miles
Evening all,
I need to transport my Dad's classic car 300 miles from his house to mine.
The engine's a non-runner at the mo and I need to move it to my house so I can work on it and get it running. It was last MOT'd 3 years ago so it could be towed but I don't fancy driving 300 miles of A-road dodging the motorway - that would take ages.
Any ideas how best to get a car 300 miles within a decent budget.
The only options I could think of were:
Flat Bed Truck hire - seems sensible but probably costly
Tow it - would take ages and don't have a tow bar.
Tow it for a mile then call the RAC and get them to flat bed lorry it the other 299 miles to my house - crafty and maybe frowned upon.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dave

ive got a mate that does deliverys and transport - he does not work out to expensive and goes all over the uk doing stuf like this if your interested i can pass his number over PM me, best thing to do is get soemeone else to take it for you OR to hire a decent car / trailer and do it yourself. if its got MOT TAX and 'looks ' like it should drive you can always try the RAC

Thanks for the great advice guys.
I'll probably go for the "hire a car and trailer option I reckon". None of my mates have a car with a towbar and I certainly don't have a car that could take a towbar.
Thanks.

Join the RAC for 50 odd quid. Tow it 1/4 mile from your dad's house. Ring up and say you've broken down. They'll tow it the 300 miles for you! You'll also be an RAC member for another 12 months! Sneaky, but it'll work.

Most of the recovery companies have sussed this one.
Worse if you break down or crash near a race circuit, they will ask you some awkward questions to ensure the damage was incured on a public highway.
I know because people have stuffed their cars at Goodwood & limped out of the circuit, up the road & then phoned the AA/RAC etc.
