It's not about the merits of a 316 over a Mondeo ST for the same money.

The 'not quite sporty' question had, I thought been answered an the preceeding page - "many people are sad losers".

Mark,
It wasn't really aimed at that part; I too answered the same question!
It was to bring it back to the main theme, I think people ssened to have not quite got what you summarised above.
Moggy's right - BMW only make the one-series so that I may hum the Wallace & Gromit theme tune when I see one. Bavarian humour; helps cheer white man up a bit these days!

This is the hateful thing I was talking about. I had to search the web to find that it's called a "cruiser". It just looks like a pile of shite to me. It's very common with the "nice try, but you're not fooling anyone" brigade.

The problem is some people want to appear to be better than they are.
This means a "prestige marque" car, massive branding on "designer" clothes, only drinking "Stella" .. who cares if they live in a pikey neighbourhood and eat tesco value beans every night.

I think that's very much the point, Bibbs. Learning to walk before you run etc. Make sure your kids can eat a decent meal before cladding them in kappa shelsuits and twatting them down to school in a pimped out BMW.
They might be suffering from malnutrition, but at least no one is questioning their choice of luxury brands.

I've never really bought into the "prestige" thing either .. I read that as "overpriced for what it is".
A mate has the lowest spec Z4 .. and the only thing he can come out with is "It's not a Honda, it's a BMW". Lets just say we don't talk much about cars.
I personally love a 997 GT3 .. but not cause it's a Porsche, but because it's a GT3. I'm not going to go out and buy a shed of a Boxter and pretend.
