Naming cars?
What is it with people who name their cars?
Don't get me wrong I have a bit of a thing for cars and have spent a fair old chunk on them and nearly all my spare time doing stuff with them. However I have never ever come close to naming one and cannot see why you would.
Child replacement maybe?
Need to get out more?
Just a bit odd?
Maybe to show their friends they are a little 'edgy'?
Or am I just being harsh and this is really common practice??

Must admit that I feel very uneasy when people name their cars.
I have never done it or felt moved to do so.
However sometimes circumstances result in a car being named. Saz had the use of Volvo estate in her teens and the plate was BEV ... Obviously that car was Bev.
We have teased AE about his old car calling it a 'Billy bolt on' and when he got his GT100 he vowed to keep it stock and not 'gild the lily' that is why he occasionally refers to his car as Lily, much to the chagrin of MB.

Well I've named every car I've owned, and I'll let those S Club members that know me judge whether I'm a bit wierd or not!
My S is called Kitt (yes, after Knightrider!). I don't care if people think I'm sad. I love giving my cars names because they are my friends and companions. Yes, they are just bits of metal. However, they give you freedom, fun and excitement and a bit of pride. Sometimes your cars can be a place of refuge and escape from bad times. Oh, and they always have to be boys for me - girls are too much trouble!
My cars and their names over the years:
Renault 5 - Stimpy (as in Ren and Stimpy, my brother had a car called Ren after me)
Pug 205 1.9 GTI - Tails (as in Sonic, my sister had a white one called Sonic)
VW Golf Mk 1 GTI Cab - Spuggie (because the numberplate was SPG)
Renault Clio - Polar (numberplate was P...OLA
Audi Coupe 1996 - Thomas (he was big, heavy and slow, like Thomas the Tank Engine)
There is method in my madness!

My first "proper" car was named Kitty (tenuous link to Pussy Galore - long story!), but other than that I've tried naming cars and it just doesn't work for me !!
I talk to them, however :loonytunes:
