Default Motorway cruiser suggestion please

Going to help a friend search for cars tomorrow afternoon.

He does a lot of autobahn miles travelling between the UK and Germany. Company covers fuel costs.

It should be a quick and comfortable capable mile muncher - petrol is not an issue as fuel costs are covered, but a large fuel tank would be a bonus. He will be paying for servicing himself. No need for this to be a performance car, he has that side of things covered with a different vehicle.

It should also have plenty of space, an automatic and under 2 years old.

Budget is £30k.

And what we're trying to find out is anything better than a year old fully loaded V6 Mondeo for this job?

Jag XF V6 3.0d

BMW 530d

Merc E350

Depending on what you want. Or an Audi A6 if the guy's a proper cock.

If you're not worried about fuel costs you seem to get so much more for your money on petrol. Interesting that you've chosen diesels on this.

Will take a look at Jag XF prices

Probably a bit more performance than what you were originally thinking, but if fuel costs are no issue, how about a BMW M5 Touring?
Admittedly there won't be one under 2 years old, and it's semi-auto, but sub £30k...

VW Phaeton.

£30K may well get a demo' car with very low miles.

Already thought of the M5 but servicing costs and the fact that it needs refuelling every 200 miles because of tank size are a problem here.

TBH it's more performance than is really needed too.
