Monday entertainment
Drove up there a couple of days ago and thought some of you may not have seen this:

Unlikely to be beaten in today's health and safety governed world although there are rumours of Loeb this year...
Sound up!

I would be very impressed if it could be beaten.
Current F1 cars are insanely fast for a 1.6 - agree about the noise though - they opted for V6 to retain the soundtrack, but the turbos really sap the experience.

The sound is phenomenal though, can't beat the screaming V10!

I have watched that video a good few times, and it still impresses me - it's a wild ride!
I have also heard that Loeb will be going for the hill record in the Peuegeot's 208 T16 - last year Gregory Guilvert drove the T16, but the engine was restricted. Peugeot say that for Loeb's runs at Goodwood, the car will be unrestricted, so with some decent weather, I think Heidfeld's record could come under serious threat. There is a new grandstand for this year giving views of 'the wall' - could be a good place to watch Mr Loeb at work.
All this fuss about the noise the new F1 engines make - I don't really get it. Why has there been such outrage about this, whilst the nonsense of DRS, short-life tyres and double-points for the final race are, by comparison of the outrage they have provoked, deemed acceptable?
I remember Rosberg (snr.) in quali at Brands Hatch in the McLaren MP4/2 - on/off power, lurching sideways, trailing black smoke, but awesome. Noise? Not a lot really. the Brabham BT53-BMW turbo, ~1500bhp, Piquet at Silverstone spent much of the quali. laps barely under control. Noise - nope. Not seen in person, but Senna man-handling the JPS Lotus Renault 98T Turbo around Monaco - again, highly memorable, but not a lot of noise going on.
I understand that the engine manufacturers are now investigating ways to make the engines noisier - what utter bollocks!
I'd take more power than grip over noise every time.
Pete - when you say 'drove up there' do you mean Lord March's drive? If so, how so? And did you dip under 40 sec's?

They don't need more power
The noise is the drama. Watch gads clip with sound off
For me the noise a car makes doing its thing is not just important...
It would be more exciting watching barely controllable cars and lots of crashes. I don't get how some cars seem to dominate so much (I'm a casual F1 fan). Red bull last god knows how many years and now Mercedes...

On a completely separate note hill climbing does appeal to me
I think it's the 'you against the clock' and short duration that appeals
