Modified Car Insurance

Modified Car Insurance
Is there anyone out there who can recommend a decent insurance company / broker who covers modified cars ?
Having come from 2 S2000's, a TVR Griffith, a remapped 300bhp Golf GTi and most recently a Z4M Roadster I am struggling to find anyone who will insure my current car for anything sensible if I choose to go down the remap route .....
It is obviously a huge risk to them with my car history, full NCB and age, etc .... being 45 and driving a BMW 320d auto is apparently terrible
If I keep the car standard I can insure it for £365 protected NCB, etc.
If I decide to remap most seem to be a bit 'frightened' .... I have tried :
Greenlight (prefer fwd)
Adrian Flux (said their quote was too expensive but will be ringing back when looked at quote again!)
Brentacre (£750)
LV (£530 via internet)
Swinton (to ring back)
A Plan (yet to ring me)
Chris Knott (declined)
Any others worth a call before I decide it is easier to keep it standard ......

I (too?) am struggling to understand the progression.
From a Z4M roadster to a 320 diesel auto.
None of my business really, but why?
Unusual mid life crisis perhaps

We thought about a second car but I couldn't be bothered as I wanted rid of the Z4M. I didn't get on with it - not that there was anything wrong with it, it was quick and 23mpg was pretty good I thought for 340bhp. The gearbox though was driving me mad and if I don't get on with something it goes
FWIW I tried a 335d and it didn't grab me - it reminded me too much of the 530d's I drive at work - and oddly the 320d doesn't do that. 330d may be an option for the future but in town they drink diesel just like most things.
A remap may make it surprisingly quick but I can't be a***d if sorting the insurance is too much of a problem.

Except that the ones at work tend to be let through the traffic a bit easier.
Keep it standard then.

Keep the Z4M and buy a bike would make more sense.
Z4M R's gone by the way ... the 320d coupe arrived in June ....

Just had another chat with my current insurer Admiral and it seems the first person I spoke to didn't know what they were talking about - car will now be insured for the remap for an extra £65 which seems reasonable for 40bhp
