Modifications....
Is this the most truth Clarkson has spoken in years....
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00ym...s_16_Episode_4/
skip to 48.25 unless you have time to kill.
With the amount of modded S' around now, those that can resist the urge to 'tinker' could find themselves with a somewhat more desirable car....
I live in hope.

no he's completely wrong.
lowered and modified is the way to go.
this video shows better proof of this

Why does everyone take what he says a gospel
Ironically in the same episode he raves about the Zonda R which turns out to be a lowered & tweaked version of a "standard" Zonda

I don't take what he said as gospel, but I've always been mostly negative about modifying, and unless buying a track car, would only buy an unmolested example. most people are idiots and don't know what they are doing. There are exceptions to this, but as a general rule it works.

So you buy one listed as "unmodified" which actually means "It was very modified and then I parted out the sellable bits prior to sale to you for the whole cycle to be repeated"
Go with what suits your taste and your pockets but always ask the right questions and make your decision based on the intellect of the seller as well as the car he's selling.
e.g
"What oil do you use to top up with?"
"Errr dunno, the garage changed it at the last service 3500 miles ago. I think they used esso stuff."
Walk away...
Or;
"I see it has coilovers, where did you get the geo done?"
"Kwik fit did the aligment when they fitted the new tyres to my sik rims"

There are only 2 people on this board I'd buy a modified car from, maybe 3 at a push. And MB isn't one of them
Pretty much everyone else gets it wrong in one way or another.
