Passing cars on track days.......

I know of an impreza driver who had a self imposed 5K rpm limit on an open pit lane day with only 14 cars (loads and loads of track time).

Now I really must tell Pam she can't keep bouncing it off the rev limiter

Now to really start the argument - if it's wet the Impreza will leave the S2000 miles behind. Downside to the Impreza is that the point where grip is lost is very. very quick.....

The S2000 (with OEM S02's) can be made to loose grip very easily in the wet

I think with the S2K in the wet, you know when it's getting irritable. It's just the speed of the snap oversteer that's breathtaking. I've caught it so far, but I've been surprised by the speed of my own reactions



I've never driven an Impreza, but I'd imagine they follow the laws of physics like Porsches: Once they do let go its in a biiig way.

I fitted S02PP's and the S2000 is now much more sure footed in the wet.... Although, I'd like to think I'm much smoother than I used to be.

Part of the problem with/fun of the S2000 is that the throttle response is very quick and there's not much play in the throttle. Therefore, small deflections of the throttle can have a huge impact on the balance of the car.

My track instructor first commented on how I used to stamp on the throttle and snap it shut. I hadn't realised this as I thought I was feeding it in gradually but "enthusiastically". Working on my control I've now eliminated the jerkiness I occasionally got on roundabout exits along with the occasional snap oversteer (touch wood...)

Then again it could be all boll0cks and the S02PP's are brilliant tyres....

BTW I never got the Impreza to let go at the airfield. Couple of Pug's/Saxo's etc tried to keep up and spun out. What was absolutely awesome was how the 4WD pulled you out of a corner. For a car which weighs nearly three times that of a Caterham it could keep up with Caterham's through the twisties. But I agree, the Impreza has so much grip and brute force handling when it goes I'll be checking I've still got all my body parts and a long term supply of Pampers....

I can vouch for the smoother part. Looking at Andy's tires during the track day, the fronts were initially taking a hammering. After his training there was far more even wear. He was also much quicker.

I'm sure you're a smoother driver now Andy. It will be interesting to compare S02PP's and OEM S02's at the meet. I should only have a few thousand miles on mine.

Though is staring at tires, much better than the best bobble hat competition?

I'm curious with the tires as the rain channels on my nearly new OEM S02's do look pretty wide. While I remember very little on your worn tires. I just think it will be interesting to park close by side and take a look...
