Default M25 Cameras

Just been on the M25 and I've noticed that although the variable speed limit was active, I didn't see any of the dreaded Gatsos that are normally situated over the M25 gantries.

Have I missed something ? or am I just going blind ?

Nah i thought the same....The M25 cams are up in the signposts above the road....So you only see them in your rear view mirror.

I thought those were just normal CCTV cameras !

Alos, how can they take photos of your car if they are so high up ?

They are placed in the gantry on the other side of the speed limit sign. Not in every one though.

The ones on poles ARE CCTV cameras, monitoring traffic flow.

I think Moreno5 meant the gatsos are in the overhead gantries but are hidden from the front by the "this lane for M25, that lane for M4" etc signs.

Does that mean that they have shrunk in size ?

When I was on the M25 on a regular basis, they could be easily spotted, because they were ugly gray boxes, but today, I just didn't see any.

Also to note that when they reduce the speed limit down too (i think it's) 50mph the camera's are automaticly ON.

If I recall a Top Gear show correctly

They are small grey boxes on the back of the variable speed-limit signs. I didn't notice this until I saw them flashing at traffic on going the other way :/

AFAIK they are only active when a variable speed limit is in effect.

Better safe than sorry though, assume that you are passing a camera every few hundred metres...definitely on the 10 miles south of the M3 I've seen them on.

Thats exactly what I meant. And the reason I saw one was because I saw one flash in the evening on the opposite flow of traffic.....Very sneaky!

But one thing I have to say is that if you download the camera files to your gps unit...these do come up and are shown on screen. But I originally saw them from the flash!
