That is really cool. My mom goes all white-knuckled every time I downshift.

I think a Cayman might be dull

Amazing car, had a few pass rides in an S with PDK. Very well balanced and quick.

Nottm_S2 - that's what I thought when I first started driving it, then I started finding its potential.

That's the same car, not the one I intend to buy.

i wouldn't rule it out. the guy who owned it said he loved it, came from an M5

i think my next car will be light. still pondering it but had the exige itch for a while now so it might be that. I need to transport kid though so maybe something dull as f@#k too

i pondered golf gti for that but too small, maybe A4 tedious

Have you tried the 86 yet?

Cramped, tinny, not very fast. Makes one smile just to sit in it and start it up. But has Isofix in the back.

It's like an MGB GT minus the utter crapness. S2000 driveline. And a wayward rear.

Hi Colin

I have a 135r s2 with Honda k20 transplant

IMO if you can't stretch to an s exige (which the roof comes off) easily the best elise is a k20 swap. It's in effect the perfect bridge between an s2k and an elise - combines the fantastic Honda qualities of engine and gearbox with the lightness of touch of the elise

It also overcomes a number of shortfalls of the standard elise. Namely the low down torque of the yota engines, the k20 having a much stronger low down pick up as well as better top end and better reliability.

One of the biggest decides for you might be the brakes. Pre Toyota they didn't have servo assistance. Mine currently does t have servo which is fantastic for feel but is difficult to modulate when you've been driving an (over)servo'd car throughout the week.

The other thing to tank about coming from the s2k is whether you want to retain the oversteery nature. I personally love oversteer but the elise just isn't that sort of car. It's very hard to unstick the back as the grip is so immense. When it does go it really goes! Fun now comes from taking insane speed through bends and honing your lines.

As you know I'm not far from you so would be happy to take you out in it any time to see what you think

Mike
