I was considering doing a K20 conversion on one. That was going to come in at about £8k if you did it yourself and used a JDM K20 for the LSD.
What I'm saying is that coming from a Westfield all those reviews don't apply.
Case in point here:

Wouldn't a vx220 turbo be a better bet?as they are almost identical under the shell, and the vx's have a better engine,in fact, for that money you could get an extremely nice vx220 or even the limited edition vxr220,or a supercharged vx220 which is apparently better than the turbo model.

I have driven my dads standard s1, s1 135 and s1 160 and prefer the 160, i think you will get bored with the power of the other s1's if you are using it on the road quite a bit. You should be able to pick up a good one for £15k.

Have you checked that you don't mind the entrance / exit strategy - do it in a typical car park space too, it's the thing that put me off buying one originally
For what it's worth I love the handling but hate it on anything but smooth roads. I think they're noisy, rattly, mean seated, a sparse interior with a lousy audio system plus I think the gearbox is clunky, especially compared to the S2000. Dislike the lack of a folding roof and hate the wind noise that the rear roof catches generate once you get your speed up. Not overly keen on having to watch the cooling system either, the one my mate has is on its 2nd HG. Everything just feels plasticy and thin, every time i close a door or a bonnet or a boot I wonder if something will fall off.
On the twisties, my mates one (Elise S2) runs rings around the S2000 but i know which i'd prefer to be in. I suspect it's one of those cars that is either your thing ... or it isn't. If it's not your only car, fair enough, if it is ... buy another S2000 or a Cayman / Boxster.
