Large Uneconomical Estate Purchased
Just bought a car for Colin and Beccy for when they return from the states in a few weeks.
As Col is in a chair we had quite specific criteria - under 60k, under £5k, must be large, leather seats, auto box, loads of boot space
We ended up with a late 2003 Ford Mondeo Zetec S 2.5 V6 estate.
This thing is fully loaded with everything you could want, heated seats, climate, parking sensors, cruise control, flappy paddles (well buttons for the gearbox) nice wheels etc etc.
We paid £3350 for it. From a dealer so could have been a bit cheaper if we'd gone private. Immaculate condition though
Compare that to a diesel Mondeo of the same age, mileage and spec and you're talking almost double the price. Which covers a lot of petrol. Cost me £70 to fill it up for a predicted range of 254 miles
It is a really nice old bus to drive. Silky smooth engine, really well sorted ride and handling - comfortable on the motorway, not bad in the twisties for it's size, Far superior to the diesel Mundaneos we have at work.
Not sure I would want to be spending those £££s to fill it up, but when you compare the price of the car plus fuel it probably equals itself out TBH.

I came very close to buying this estate when it first appeared on the Dream Cars site a few years ago... the clam-shell disappearing electric tailgate is über-cool...

Think that Ford V6 was the second decent engine they ever made. IIRC, the secon one Yamaha assisted with too.
Probably the last of the decent-to-drive chassis too, so not as dull as many moderns.
Never fall for Diesel deceit either; it's europrat brainwashing.
Good luck with it!

it's all about the miles you do
I'd have another big engined car in a heartbeat
IF I was doing low miles AND I was using the car at times when I could enjoy the performance/luxury
