4. There's always a rush; it's created buy enjoying a genuinely entertaining drive, not by stodging along in a perceived status symbol.
For me that is the essence of ANY car what ever its purpose.

But this is exactly it, what I want from a road car is changing.
The big influence has been the amount of motorway miles I've been doing lately, I very, very rarely enjoy a good drive on the road these days.
Don't forget what my other car is and what I do with it
The only reason this thread is about the Germans is because they're the only ones making cars that fit the bill
I'm still very much open to ideas though

The cars are well balanced and feel taut. When you do push on, their respond in a very linear way and don't offer any sudden dynamic changes, having recently driven a 120D it's easy to see why it's the fastest driven BMW

I run (amongst other things) a C class 2.7 diesel. Its black, with heated leather and all the toys. Its an auto estate and surprisingly rapid.
Its a fabulous car to drive when you're not bothered about the drive...if you know what I mean.
4 of us went from Sussex to Old Trafford a few weeks ago and it was very pleasant - sat at 90 and averaged 40mpg. It costs me £190 per annum to insure
You need something else for the days you do want to drive but for everything else the Merc is hard to beat.

I'm pretty sure Audi are FWD or 4wd.
Mate of mine got a top end A3 Quatro S line with flappy padles and all the kit for 16k.
Was only about 6 months old and still had full dealer waranty.
Apparently some junior banker had bought it and needed to shift it when the bottom fell out of his bear market (or whatever).
As Al had about a 20k car budget he bought it and used the rest of the 4k to offset the high runnning costs.
There's some nice bargains out there.
