Italian road rage...
Well hardly rage...
I have just returned from a nice frip to Pisa / Florence / Forte De Marmi and witnessed many things there to make me realise how shit our country is.
The most thought provoking was during a taxi ride to Pisa station when our taxi driver displayed his displeasure at another motorists driving, by using some abusive sign language and a fair bit of beeping (they like to beep)
The other driver did the same back, and there was a bit of verbal here and there through the open windows.
When he let us out at the station the other driver pulled up and got out to discuss the incident with our driver. Quite a heated debate but at no time did you get the feeling that they (or anyone else in that situation) would resort to a ruck. They happily and animatedly discussed it like adults. At no point either was there a suggestion that weapons might be involved. After a bit of emotion they both got back in and drove off.
I amagined the same scenario in this country, and reflected on the several times people have chosen to stop their car and attempt to beat crap out of me for probably not much more than having a decent car.... Scum.
Quite impressed I was by this and it stuck in my head a bit.
Furthermore, I noticed that Italian children everywhere seem to have respect for their surroundings and other people.
Simple stuff I noticed while on the beach.
Kids stop kicking footballs around to let you past, rather than aim at you.
Restaurants leave their chairs with the covers on overnight as apparently they won't get stolen.
Beaches had loads of shower shings for your feet, but with taps on them rather than a timed push button thing, knowing that people probably dont abuse the things.
Chavs don't seem to exist. At night all the youngsters congregate (via scooters) to plaza's or other meeting points - whereupon they seem to have a but of a laugh, and not get pissed.
Didn't see any lads with their shirts off drinking Stella
Family orientated people they are...
Anyway, all simple stuff but it did make me think

My favourite part of the world.
Rome, Venice, Florence, the lakes and the islands.
I love the food, the people and the values they have about life.
Family is a high priority and this is where we fail in this country.
We don't look after the kids and the old. We are selfish, materialist and intolerant.
Rant over

I'm glad others noticed too
Agree on the driving, I hired a manual left hooker and getting used to changing gear with the wrong hand while also driving with Italinas was challenging
The only other downside is the effect the Euro has had on prices. We ate at some high end places and some of them were approaching London prices. Not a cheap week! Very enjoyable though.
