Default Ingliston Revival

When I was a kid in the 70s, my Dad regularly took me to Ingliston, a circuit just outside Edinburgh that is sadly no longer used for racing. Just found out on Twitter that there's an Ingliston Revival happening in September so have bought a ticket for the Sunday.

I don't recall how he knew him, but Dad was friendly with Graham Birrell, so we used to get access to the pits and paddock which, for a ten year old, was dead exciting. Birrell used to race Brabhams in Formula 2 for Ecurie Ecosse - his (slightly more famous) brother Gerry was killed racing in F2 as well - but I remember Graham racing V8 Anglias and Escorts.

Apparently there will be no racing at this revival, just parades and concourse stuff, but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless.

Looks good - shame it clashes with the Goodwood Revival

If we're home I might get over, 15 minutes from home.

Shisk', we very probably bumped into one another there in the '70's!

A friend and I used help another friend who raced in the Formula Libre class in that bygone era, and Ingliston was a regular venue.

Happy days.

Will the SNP be protesting over the name of this event?

If we can get half a dozen cars to go we could register as a club and get our cars inside.

Pete.

Two weeks to go and they're giving adult hospitality the big sell for £59. Err ... I'll stick to my cheapo £10 ticket thanks ...

Sunday's schedule. It mentions the track and laps but I'm sure I'd read before there would just be parades. Perhaps parade laps at gentle pace then ...

I'm planning to get there for about 10.30ish on Sunday, in time to catch the first of the historic car runs.

Tonight's Reporting Scotland featured this item about the circuit and here is another BBC Scotland News page.

Great day out today. Way quieter than I'd expected. Not sure if that was the weather or just not well advertised. Great to see a s2000 out on track. Someone on here? [attachment=85101:image.jpg]
There was a nice mix of old and new on show and on track. I was really impressed with the Lotus Evora 400 - way nicer in the flesh. Lovely interior as well and sounded epic. The McLarens were silly silly gorgeous. The 650s spider that's in Mikeys shopping basket was obviously an outstanding thing to look at, and it's the first time I've seen the 570s and 675LT in the flesh Mikey, if you need an s2000 pace car on you're Scotland trip PM me

I spoke to the owner of that S who introduced himself as Alastair and said that was his forum name. I did confirm s2ki.com but perhaps he's a member of another forum as I can't remember seeing an Alastair on here.

I left around lunchtime feeling a bit underwhelmed. It didn't help that I had zero sense of deja vu, partly due to it being over 40 years since I last visited and the fact that so much has changed since then, I couldn't identify any recognisable landmarks.

I wasn't give a site map when I came in which would undoubtedly have helped my disorientation. I guess as a kid I used to come in a gate to the north and approached the circuit from behind the (no longer there) main stand. Yesterday, coming in the west gate, completely threw me and I ended up spending most of the morning at the short straight after the esses when I would have probably been better off going to the hairpin.

I headed off for a circuit map and a supervisor directed me to security gate near the office, telling me the guy there would fetch me one. The wee bloke in his hi-viz jacket in fact let me through and told me where the office was. Round the corner I was confronted by a (slightly stressed-out) well-spoken bloke who challenged why I was there. I realise now it was Sandy Bloomer, the bloke whose company put the whole thing on. Despite my trespassing, he gave me a complimentary programme. Perhaps his stressed appearance was a sign they hadn't sold enough tickets ...

Will post some not terribly exciting photos later ...
