Default Imagine this.

You've never raced in real life.

You've driven online a little.

You attend a real race.

What do you expect the typical result to be?

'You attend a real race' (presumably as a spectator, because you need a license to race).

I would expect you to be smitten and then to look into becoming a race entrant. For which you need a fairly deep pocket. MB?

I think "looks easy enough, I could do that".

Look up some of the requirements on 'internet.

Think "it all looks like too much faffing about".

Move on to next short term interest.

I was probably more drunk than I thought when I posted that.

What I meant to say was, if you were an entrant

I was trying to get at if you just raced on video games then had a go in real life, would you have a chance against those that do it in reality?

No chance whatsoever. If you try to drive around a real circuit the same way as you do on a game, you'll be in the barriers in your first lap.

I expect Ron (Ultra) will disagree, though.

Some of those kids from the Nissan thing have done pretty well

Especially Jann Mardenbrough - i think he even won some races.

I think there can be some translation across

Video games are apparently good for learning circuits - I don't really understand games though.

But if you cannot really control a car, you're half-past dead.

I think 5th Gear tested it out a while back. There was definitely some read-across, if the 'game' was played with wheel, pedals, gearstick etc. I seem. To remember he learned quickly in the real thing, but was a little on the 'brave' side! Had to calm himself down to not have an accident. No consequences on a game!

That wasn't in a race though, just track to himself.

Those guys get a LOT of circuit training before they first race. Play station ability is just the start. I've raced against some of them...

You will never learn real race craft, ie what it means to corner inches from another car, or a lot of the protocols from a game. Not yet anyway.

To the original question - you'd get annihilated.
