Oh bummer has done an eco Volt face (sic) for political purposes; CNG was the way to go for the US, as the excellent Honda Civic GX showed. Now he's pushing EVs, which make far less sense than hybrids, let alone clean & available CNG. Unless he intends to use that to recharge the batteries.

$2.4 bn of printed money on a crock of shit, just to get in with the ecomentalists.

This is precisely why I take the whole thing with a pinch of sodium. And sulphur & a very hot chamber.

Like I say; I've nothing against Toyota or Hybrids per se; however if I were a company slave, a BorgwardMachtWeiter320EDiDrive sounds a lot less miserable to have!

If someone could just make my 120d sound like a petrol v8, then I'd be a lot happier

One advantage of an ev is you can make them sound however you want. You might feel a bit of a fraud in a Volt that sounds like a BRM though.

Indeed, it makes much more sense for electric cars to be charged at home/work, as that's predominantly how they'll be used.

Until the plug-in Prius arrives, it's a moot point though.

In fact, the plug-in Prius looks to be a brilliant compromise - electric use for the daily usage of short trips, with ICE backup for longer trips.

You know that; I know that.

But there are a few in power who think that by fiat, they can turn back the tide - like King Knut.

Well, I refer to them as something that sounds like King Knut, with good reason.

So, to sum up, no one actually knows if the prius is actually better for the environment or not.

Anyone fancy doing a full lifecycle study of a prius against a comparable full ev, diesel and petrol?
