Has vtec had its day?
Has vtec had its day? well the current generation - low torque, high emissions, low mpg.
I know in years gone by it was brought out to offer a mixture of performance/economy to rival bigger displacement engines but time has moved on.
Looking at the current trend of small turbocharged/supercharged engines you are getting good mpg, performance and low emissions.
Don't get me wrong i think vtec is fantastic but i just think its day are numbered, however i know other manufacturers use similar techniques.
Saying this it looks like Honda are changing direction too.

will someone tell the Americans?
they still seem to build plenty of cars with relatively simple large capacity V8s
I'd also have thought the S2000 technology still stands up
is there another 2 litre lump out there producing 240 bhp in na form?

Its not all bad, cars that are FI to start with are easier to tune And as turbocharging tech becomes cheaper and advances we will see virtually zero lag turbos arriving..
Its like the tuned 335ci vs the M3 debate, the tuned 335s have more torque and almost as much power as the V8 M3!

Ha!
The amount of BMW's i see with 'M' badges present non 'M' cars is ridiculous, i seen a 325 with an M badge on the otherday - FFS is your going to try and trick people at least remove the 325 badge .

but they remain 335s
Honda seem to be in some sort of automotive black hole tbh, and I doubt VTEC will feature in anything "fast" they produce in the future. I would like to be wrong though!
PS - M badges on non M cars is extremely sad, enough to make me shake my head at them.

I'm totally on the fence with n/a vs FI, I love different aspects of both.
