the safety program clearly had a dramatic effect on results, though WRC and other formula's have not been quite so fortunate as F1 in recent years.

Chapman was a bit of a chancer when it came to high strong to make the cars, and came across in the film as a bit of a drivers villian.. but according to the Wiki stats, Cooper and Ferrari had equal or more fatalities..
Chapman quite carefully calculated his cars like that. And monocoques wwere the way forward.

Cooper tended to make it up as he went along - at least until later. The early ones used to break a lot.

Ferraris were over-powered and somewhat crudely-engineered too.

So one might argue that the most cynical car was indeed the safest!

what about the bit when he just told the mechanics to make the rear wing 6inches wider at each end during the GP weekend ! and guess what the mounts broke due to the huge increase in loading..

I thought he was a visionary thinker/designer, but I am not 100% convinced he was the calculating engineer - his style wouldn't work in the current format of super tight regulations where it's all about very tiny details..

Yes, and Chapman 'made' Jochen Rindt go out and kill himself by driving a car he did not trust*.

Widow Nina seems a lovely lady. They all seemed a great bunch of friends back then.

edit: *I might have got that wrong, but I can't go back and check ...

Just watched, gripping stuff.

The way things were back then is almost impossible to comprehend when you've had first hand experience of what happens when you have a little bump at a club event.
