Default Grand Prix: The Killer Years

Sorry if it's a repost but for those like me, who missed this, it's showing on the Beeb's iPlayer at the moment.

I had already seen it was on. Watched it last night. The clip near the end with Williamson is pretty harrowing.

I saw it first time around

jaw dropping stuff at times and often quite chilling

I knew David Purley (used to drink in The Fox at Felpham if anyone knows it)

he was a top bloke, real man's man and no side to him

Just watched that. Thanks for the heads up BC.

Up there with that Le Mans '55 docufilm as a chilling account.

I watched this again last night. Somewhat disturbing and upsetting it has to be said, though I think as we said last time it was on it was a shame they didn't continue the story, and in fact it ended with the statement that in 1976 nobody was killed. True, but that was when Lauda had his near fatal crash at The Nürburgring, and was only saved by several drivers stopping to help. So really not much had changed.

pretty shocking, but it's interesting how attitudes change to this sort of thing over time.. how the belgium circuit owners really couldn't give a monkeys what happened..

watching the news now on TV, showing the tragedy of 96 people losing their lives at a football match, even in 1989 that didn't seem so unbelievable, or the Bradford City fire.. but now it would feel totally unreal.

yes, those are surreal memories, Kobe.

Saw both unfold on BBC Saturday afternoon TV 'live'.

I wonder what might emerge from the confidential papers about Hillsborough?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...atal_accidents

the safety program clearly had a dramatic effect on results, though WRC and other formula's have not been quite so fortunate as F1 in recent years.

Chapman was a bit of a chancer when it came to high strong to make the cars, and came across in the film as a bit of a drivers villian.. but according to the Wiki stats, Cooper and Ferrari had equal or more fatalities..
