Thanks Euan. The Parker's website is playing up, but will give it a go later

Ah (taken from MCN):

Sounds like an 05 CBR600 would be a better bet
The CBR600RR is a very good bike but I think that you would find that the 05 R6 would be more comfortable and easier to ride for someone that has just passed their test.

The 05 CBR is more of a track focused bike than the 05 R6.

You should also be able to get the R6 for a better price than the CBR (you can buy a new '05' model R6 for

I can only vouch for the 05 R6, Craig, but it's a very comfortable and easy bike to ride. And good looking too. I've tested it up to 120 so far on M-ways and A roads, and there's no instability at all. You should be able to easily get an 05 with ~5K miles for sub

I wouldnt worry about the build quality of any of the Big 4 jap builders, they will all please you .

Unless you are going to ride all weathers and leave it uncovered all year round.

When I bought my ZX6R in '96 the pecking order in terms of build quality was Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki.

I expect Honda are still the top dunno about the others.

However my 10 year old ZX6R still looks and rides like the day it was made as does my wife's 2000 SV650. My brother's '98 Bandit hasn't fared so well... needing a new tank due to rust, but then it is parked outside all year round.

Incidentally, I wouldn't get too hung up about which year model is better than what...I test rode the 2005 ZX6R and wasn't overwhelmed by it compared to my '96 model, sure it was an improvement but not as much as I expected.

And my wife's 80bhp SV650 is still a bloody quick machine, enough for someone who has just passed their test IMHO.

I also have a M900 Ducati Monster, which is also around 80bhp but way more torquey thayn the SV650, and is an extremely fast and capable real world machine even if not an out and out sports bike...

All of them are of course in a different performance league to cars like the S of course....

First long distance ride in the dark tonight (coming back from work). I also wore ear plugs...I haven't since the wobble meet.

The ride was really weird....felt kinda detached from the bike. Felt as though I was 'floating' home. And no, I hadn't been drinking.

Also, any tips on riding when it's gusty with lots of sidewinds. A case of going slow, or are there any tips to avoid being blown into the other lane while still 'making progress'.
