Steve, go for the DRZ400SM. Not too expensive, and great fun. It's what I am riding.
Buaan, that looks like a tidy bit of kit. Think my chain snap was caused by being slightly over exuberant when adjusting/tightening the chain. All back together and running well now though

Thanks for the advice guys, after much reading it seems the supermotos that I liked are very very fragile(crf450x etc)
And I don't really want to be rebuilding the engine once a year.
So after looking through eBay,bike trader, pistonheads I kept getting drawn to ducatis,I've found one I like but I'm in the process of getting him to knock some money off or getting the belts done at a Ducati dealers.
Fingers crossed we can come to some deal.

I gave up on the supermotos,I've put a deposit down on a 748r,
I had a 748bp many moons ago,and really enjoyed it,also there's the fact that my dad had a genuine foggy replica.and that beast was the best bike I have ever riden to date, still can't get the thought out of my head of how good it was.
Will get pics up when it arrives

Fair play SteveSC2.
Chatted to the fella who owned this one a few months ago. Had Termignoni Exhausts, and the "open cover" on the dry clutch. Certainly made a bit of noise.. and the exhaust!

A while back I had a 748s ...

Probably the worst bike I have ever owned. Not much use on anything other than fast A roads and as uncomfy as hell, especially when you trying to use it to commute.
Looked good though and I am sure it would have been a great track bike.

Currently got this in my garage ...

Great fun but the engine is lumpy and it is a bit fragile. Shit on motorways but good around the city .... been contemplating replacing it with a Dorsoduro which I think would make a better bike for the occasional commute.
I don't get out on it enough

Just had to look up dorsoduro, they look good, prob on par with the hypermoto,if not better.
The supermotos I was looking at were designed for the track not the road, the reliability issues were a joke,on a Honda crf450x,Honda recommend a piston change at 15hrs.
and when the crf engine lets go...it normally takes majority of the internals with it.
After reading that,it was a no go for me.
As for the 748r,I understand they aren't the best bike for plodding around on.or the best bike for long distance commutes,it's gonna be a 2nd toy with the s2000 been my main weekend toy.to be fair I will be lucky if I clock up 500miles a year on it:-(prob spend more time polishing it:-)
