Well the weather god was smiling again on Wednesday so Kyle, on his GSXR 1000, and me on the HP2 Sport, headed for Wales.
First stop was Llandovery - where I went to school - after 81 miles of brisk riding. After a cup of tea at the West End Cafe it was off up to Rhandirmwyn and the Llyn Brianne reservoir.
This reservoir regulates the flow into the River Tawe which exits to the sea at Swansea - Abertawe in Welsh which translates to Mouth of the Tawe.
We kept on up the road which is just single track with passing places. Not a road for speed since there is a lot of loose gravel but just one to enjoy the scenery such as this:
A few miles further up the road splits - you can head East back to the relative civilisation of Llanwrtd Wells or West towards Tregaron. We headed West and were rewarded with the sight of a Red Kite. Once one of the UK's rarest birds - when I was at school the area around Llyn Brianne was the only place in the UK where they were to be found and there were only 20 breeding pairs - it is now becoming more common:
We also saw a number of buzzards during the day but these are quite common:
The road headed out of the forest and up onto open moorland:
Through Tregaron, Pontrhydfendigaid to Devil's Bridge for more tea and then over the A44 at Ponterwyd to Llyn Nant y Moch - literally the pig's stream or spring :
This reservoir regulates the River Rheidol.
Another shot by the lake itself:
We followed the track around the lake and down to Talybont, up to Machynlleth and then we took the mountain road to Llanidloes. This was a first time road for both Kyle and I and it is a definite road to return to. from Llanidloes it was up to Newtown and home. 246 miles in the day.
