I also am an accountant.

VFR (I had an 800FiW which got written off hence the VTEC) was my first bike, but the more I ride it the more I like it. Very versatile and seems forgiving in that's it's never chucked me off, despite my occasional inadvertent attempt at crashing it.

How is the throttle/fuelling on yours? I don't think mine is the worst of them, but it still periodically gives me grief sometimes.
All round good bike IMO I've not been left behind by many - 2 guys I ride with on a CBR1000RR and a Daytona 955i (with much lowered gearing) can leave me if they're really going for it, particularly on the twistier stuff, but overall I'm pleased with it and keep up with most!

Fuelling is acceptable on mine - I haven't had any major VTEC/lurching issues, but I tend to feather the clutch (cant drag the back brake cos they're linked) so not really had a problem. I came from an Aprilia RST1000 which had quite a lazy throttle response, so this felt super sharp, but I soon adjusted to it.

Basically, I've learnt to ride around it and once you do that, I've found the bike to be better than the previous Fi VFR's (which I nearly bought).

It did alright on the track day too - ok, bits touched down and it was far too big and heavy to keep up with all the sports bikes (plus I had to have the luggage rakcs on cos the track day was en route to another event!), but it was stable and above all good fun - and I couldn't go much further by the end of the day (see tyre pic ):

Don't know if I'll even bother to tax mine this year. Are we going to get a summer?
