As for kit here is my 2p:
Helmet - you only have one head so get the best you can. FWIW the guy who painted my helmet told me that since he has to strip each helmet down before painting it he is familiar with how well they are made and IHO Arai are the best quality by far.
Leathers or a Textile Suit. Leathers are better if you end up sliding down the road - the point being that you slide rather than tumble end over end which is what can happen with Textiles since the material snags on the road surface. Textiles are clearly a lot lighter. Hein Gericke do good value suits in both leather and textile.
Boots. Personally I'm a fan of Daytona boots as they are really well made. However, they aren't cheap but you can save money by buying them in their country of origin - Germany - over the internet. Broadly a Euro there buys you a

bikewise how about guzzi griso?. some 2nd hand cali's aren't spenny and if they brake down in the middle of nowhere just knock on the nearest farmers door, they are bound to have some spare tractor parts.
joking apart reliability wise the cali's are no worse than a hardly ever goes...
really depends if you want speed and realiabiltyie go Jap or charisma and the odd headache, go Italian.
i think the trumpers are a good in between.
