Found a replacement bike eventually, and signed up today
2006 VFR800 VTEC
1200 miles on the clock, and doesn't seem to suffer too badly from the VFR low speed/mid throttle surge
Not as nice as the K1200s I tried 2 weeks ago , but a lot cheaper
Maybe next year ..........

Are you in a position where you can tell us about the accident yet?
Guy waiting at junction to turn right across me travelling happily along an A Road way up north.
I saw his wheels start to move, at which point I beeped a few times and hbacked off the throttle a little.
Had he carried on out at this point I would have been able to brake safely without too much drama, but he stopped.
I assumed he had seen me (it was raining, but I'm sure he looked in my direction) so got gently back on the throttle, at which point he decided to pull out when my braking distance had decreased to about 10 metres - not enough at 30-40 mph.
I emergency braked, but the front locked up on the wet (as did the rear I think), and the bike went down after a few metres and skidded along towards him, eventually bouncing gently off his front offside before spinning around and ending up in the middle of the road - I banged my head on the tarmac quite hard a couple of times I think as the bike skidded along the road or span after hitting his car - I was left a few feet from the bike in the middle of the road I think.
Fine except for a couple of minutes of double vision and some small friction burns on my knees (which also took a knock, but HG Hiprotec did a sterling job there ). Arai did it's job so well, I have bought another exactly the same - if I had been wearing an open face helmet, I might still be drinking through a straw though

Glad you didn't suffer worse injuries, Euan. The new bike looks very nice
As a matter of interest, did you have the "side" lights on (what do you call them on a bike?) or a dipped beam? I'm not convinced that my "side" lights are that effective to be noticed by dippy drivers so I often stick dipped beam on, even in good conditions. Am I being paranoid?

Doesn't your bike have the dipped beam come on automatically? I thought yours was new or nearly new . Regardless, I'd use dipped beam all the time.
Sometimes folk don't see you whatever you look like on a bike
At the time I had dipped beam, lurid Chris Walker Helmet, and to top it all newly acquired full hi-viz HG Daylite jacket. Feck all good that was
