Just had a settlement price for my viffer after it being declared a total loss (RTC, story for another time), and there is a chap on the viffer forum who is interested in buying it from salvage (ie from me once I buy it). He's a very good mechanic by all accounts and well known on the forum, as well as being local to me.
What sort of premium might be reasonable for me to charge (if any) for the bike? I don't know what his plans are re rebuild or spares breaking. I had hoped that the damage was principally extensive panel and other extraneous parts - every single bit of plastic is fecked due to the way the RTC happened, but don't know if the forks and frame were damaged.
He would give the bike a good home one way or another, so I would prefer him to get it than for it to go to auction.

What happened?
I would take a look at your insurance payment and work back from there .....
i.e. Take the salvage value and add the ammount that the insurance company undervalued the bike. That would probably be a fair deal for both of you.
Are you buying another VFR?

I don't really want to say what happened until the claim has been settled and I can persuade the polis to show some interest, but suffice to say I wasn't hurt and it wasn't a "rider error".
ISWYM re the salvage and working back the way - makes sense
I have a settlement figure from the insurance company which isn't stiffing me for as amuch as I expected, which is good news. Still have to claim for my lid, gloves, leathers etc from the third party (Uninsured loss folk to which I paid a premium are arsing about as they don't see a

glad you're ok!
i had a no fault prang on my little xr125 which bent the forks. i agreed a fair market value with the insurance loss adjuster (or watever they are called) and we agreed a salvage value. i took the salvage offer as the bike was rideable afer a small amount of work (though coz of the forks i was always a little right hand down as it were)
when it came for its mot i sold it to the chairman of my co who has a small farm for the difference.
he still has it.
interestingly the car suffered a lot more damage than the car!

I've got a salvage value from the insurers, but I don't really have time to source parts and fit them myself, and I wouldn't know if anything more serious was bent like the frame or forks - I'd be inclined to think no, but don't have the expertise or experience to tell for sure (or fix them). Even if I had time, TBH I don't think I would save much by fixing myself.
