Update on changing ZX6R/Monster for one bike having done some test rides...
Rode the Monster S4R...didn't feel "right" or even finished, and not sure the motor suits the Monster. Disappointed.
Next up the Hondas, first the CBR600RR, very very nice and surprisngly torquey, very small and light, feels like a 400, liked it a lot. Then the Blade, the family DNA is clear. I came away though thinking great as it is actually the 600 is better for me. It's hard to explain, almost like it's too much.
The fundamental problem for me with these bikes though, was the riding position. My ten year old ZX6R feels like a tourer in comparison (and in its day it was quit radical), and I find that a bit uncomfortable on long rides. I have a back problem and pretty much had to unwind myself vertebra by vertebra to get off the bikes. There is no way I could live with these bikes. Disappointed again.
Next to the Triumph dealer.
Initlally I cancelled the Daytona 675 test as I expected it to be too extreme like the Hondas. So I test rode the Speed triple and really liked it and got on well with the riding position but again, like the Blade, somehow felt it was too much.
What you need is a Street Triple said the dealer. Transpires Triumph are shortly bringing out a 675 based version of the Speed Triple.
So out I go on the Daytona 675 to see if I like the engine. What a bike. If I wanted a sports bike that is the one I would get. I loved it, and the engine is an absolute peach. Unless you are very very talented you don't need more bike than this.
The prospect of a Speed Triple type bike with this engine (albeit slightly detuned) in a small light package really appealled - truly the midway between the ZX6R and Monster even to the number of cylinders!
So after a bit of research and thinking about it, I have just ordered one like this...
Down side is it won't be available till September, but then spending a bit more time on a ZX6R and a Monster is not the end of the world...
