Depends on how much you want to spend on insurance. Do you mean quick instead of "interesting"? Any 600 sports would fit the bill. If you don't want a sports bike, how about a Kwak Z750 or maybe a Trumpet Speed Triple? The Speed Triple might be a bit too naughty though
Some good ideas here - I've looked at a z750 that seemed very

... but I don't want a hanger queen that needs washed every 10 miles.

Speed Triple is probably too naughty (but nice!). So speed four then!?

R6 etc. don't really interest. I want performance, but it doesn't need to be light speed. Anything quicker than the S2000 between stand still and 100mph will do.

Have a look at the Yamaha Thunderace , 1000cc and will stay with anything on bumpy back roads .

Comfortable bike with all the power you could hope to use for a couple of years .

Understated bike with sensible insurance costs

Bike,

He went to the Island last year with 4 other bikes , then often does their 4 for 400 mile UK test route ( or whatever the mag calls it )

Gets a good cash hit every day and all his expenses covered , thrashes the arse off somebody elses bike , and often manages to blag some nice kit .
How does one get a job like that?

Or the slightly more sensible choice of the thundercat - as above but 600cc

he is irresponsible and will drop everything at a moments notice and just go , regardless .

So now they always ring him first , plus he can ride well and has ridden just about everything you can imagine ,

and of course being of a mature age he is a quick rider too

I wrote a bike test once

ZX6R vs CBR vs Thundercat vs Gixxer

for a glossy free magazine someone I knew worked for.

I owned a ZX6R, the current CBR was pretty much the same as one I'd had nicked not long before and I'd had 10 min test rides on the cat and the gixxer. Plenty of material for a 5 page article

The ZX6R won. It was my test so I could make my own bike win if I wanted

best thing - spend about 6 weeks riding all sorts to see what you like.

i was going to use mine for commuting and getitng about in london (about 3000miles a year in all weather)
it was going to live outside and uncovered
it was going for a blat around the a/b roads
it was going to take my wife so had to be comfy and with her not sitting 100ft above me which is a bitch when manoevering in london traffic

i ended up with an 01 600f. in a straight line acceleration I cant really tell the difference with mine and a 01plate R6.

in real world conditions i cant ride a 05 r6 any quicker than mine. its comfy, it has a center stand which incredibly useful becuase daily riding, esp in winter means lots of chain lubing and no need to piss about with paddock stands.
its comfy enough to ride unitl the tanks dry.

the other great thing about the 600f is that as they havnt changed it since introduction of fuel injection a 01 is just as good as a 07 so you dont need to spend anything like 4500

downside - are more exciting and involving bikes out there and it comes down to personal choice.

with a new licence in your pocket you can go to any dealer and try any bike as they know you will buy. so ride everything then decide.

I get the idea that most mag tests are written with the same criteria

Mate has been lumbered with the fully liveried Repsol Blade for the first day, he wont mnd that as its more forgiving to ride and not as flighty as the R1 or 10

It's a hard life - I don't think I'd be too upset about being given any of those
