Mate of mine got one for his Merc when we both got through our interviews for specialist training rotations.

Looked such a nob.

I think the secret is to massage the rear brake, and feather the clutch.

plus dont be afraid to throw in the odd body swerve here and there.

Its great fun 2 up and with overladen panniers , top box and a tank bag

Also as Euan mentions , practice emergency stops , to this day i still spend time playing and trying to nip the front tyre up.

In scotland IME, daily mileage would only depend on the weather

agreed, though i rarely ever use the rear brake - its worthless anyway on my current bike. on other models though have used it extensively when coming down alpine passes, as its great for kicking the rear out once the throttle comes on.

as for emergency stops, again most people, don't use the full braking force of the bike. i know i didnt know how much i had, until such a situation and in the wet too.

I really ought to practice some emergency stops on mine - I tried once shortly after getting it and almost dropped it. I was expecting the front to dive like the GS500 I did my DAS on, and the shock put me off

I don't know how much of this is down to the Combined Braking System on the Honda, worn shocks on the Suzuki, or just better engineering on a newer/more expensive bike :dunno:

Thought I'd have to do one when some biddy oulled out in front of me on the A9 - clearly she hadn't seen an oversized Bertie Bassett approaching at high speed Fortunately she didn't panic and stop right in front of me, and I had time to give her a friendly hand gesture.

I didn't know that.

Not sure if I'll go yet - will decide nearer the time.

On a personal bike related note - I saw mine today - I had to get some stuff out of the shed
