Did some miles fall off too?
Yes I did it on purpose. For years now the speedo on my '78 BMW R100/7 has jumped at about 70 or 80 to virtually full scale deflection. Not really a problem on this bike, as the rev counter is OK, and as long as you are good at 16X tables it was not worth messing with. When I went out on the bike last week it started jumping from 40 or 50 so I decided to strip it and clean out the accumulated rubbish. I'm hoping that might do the trick. Its not worth messing with the miles as when I bought the bike, in about '86, it only had 26,000 miles on the clock and I bought from a friend who had had the bike from new. Its now got 56K ish so still not many miles and I don't suppose the bike is worth much even with very low miles!

Its quite often the speedo inner cable needs cleaning / replacing if its jumping , assuming of course it is driven in that manner

Thinking of touring round Jockland next summer .

I know its going to be slightly different to rome was this year , but i have been so impressed with the pics the Jock clan post I feel the need to discover more of that area.

Any suggestions for a route , or must seeee's ? Like to do 300 ish a day if required with a week at one base some time during the period

Probably planning on a near 2 week ride to ensure we have a good chance of seeing some sunshine

Don't you mean 2 month ride

The A814 Arrochar to Helensburgh is regarded as one of the best biking roads on Scotland but I am sure that you would like the A817 that joins this road to the A82 (Loch Lomond Rd) as it is a fast road with a spectacular view.

Yes , for sure

there will be early morning race track antics as is normal with the party , but the daily rides between stopovers will need to have good riding roads and pleasant scenery.

Its the scenery thats taking me there much against my better judgement , the last 2 years have seen us racing to Nice and Rome , so this will be so different

I feel as though some of the best scenery in the world is basically on my doorstep and i havent made the most of it.

Just this weekend we were out in Yorkshire , despite the nonstop pi$$ing rain it was beautiful , its almost as though it was how God meant it to be viewed .

I can also now see why there isnt a Hosepipe ban t'up north , cos everywhere is under bloody water already

That is a serious concern ,

but it just means that the race takes place at slower speeds

I was in a constant state of fear as we crossed the Swiss Alps this year in pouring rain , it did improve my riding though and also gave me a lot of experience with front end slides .
