I would avoid back roads in this weather until you get a bit more experience on the bike.

Van would probably be the best bet to take it home.

Been out for about 4 hours on the bike today ..well maybe 1.5 hrs on the bike, the rest in the biker caff having tea and bacon sarnies and then watching one of the chaps' Ring (and NO not that sort of ring!!) videos ... top day even including the rear-wheel slide that threatened to punt me off but I managed to save!
