I bought my WRX as a tow car. It's effortless, but when towing it *REALLY* drinks fuel. Top fun but not exactly cheap to run. That's offset I suppose by the fact that they are dirt cheap to buy. In fact here you go. Insurance on a PPP via admiral/priviledge I think, they cover the PPP'd car for the same as standard (shows as a WRX 265).
Scarily the best tow car I've ever owned was a Freelander diesel. Not really gonna set your work on fire. Fits in most garages though as long as you remember the aerial when reversing out...
