The lack of responses might be saying it all folks

Another thing - dont go on a bank holiday. Better still, dont go on a weekend that USED to be a bank holiday.
Even though is no longer is a bank holiday it still will be a bank holiday lol. In the West on a weekend that USED to be a bank holiday they shut everything - inc. restaurants! I found this out as part of my trip

So you did some highway driving and decided it was dull ?
As it happens we have a house near Sarlat. Marvellous b roads and no traffic. So although it means we have to drive with to cars i always take the S with me.

Well, actually once we got there we spent a few days driving out to villages and the like, what else could we do - everything was closed
All Im saying is I found it less insprining than other areas of that vast country. It is not at the top of my revisit list

If you're thinking of doing the Millau bridge then this route is one to consider:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&so...1,4.938354&z=8

The route starts at le Viaduc de Millau and ends up at Hotel la Metairie in Mauzac. The route is long sweeping country roads with little traffic, well when we did it a few years ago it was just like that. Good scenery and some fantastic driving.

If you fancy a little luxury at the end of the day then spend at night at the Hotel. It is very secluded and really is a gem of a place. It won't be over run and your other half will really appreciate it. We have done a lot of travelling and it's one of those places that we'd both like to go back to.

Thanks a lot Lee, and jml.

Much appreciated!

We were about to just stay and doss around - chill out.
But the open roads are too good to miss!

looking forward to the Cognac sampling, the markets and the fine food just as much.

I guess the beaches are reached fairly easily as a day trip too?
