Default Forest Rally Day

Last Saturday a few friends and I had a great day in Wales throwing MK2 Escorts around the Welsh Mountains.

We booked the day with the guys at http://www.forestrally.co.uk/ and I can honestly say that I've not had so much fun in a car for a while.

It is amazing how a car can still go around a corner at high speed when it's wet and made of gravel! You can feel the car slipping all over the place, even on the straights at speed, but as weird as it sounds the lack of grip made it easier to handle a sideways car.

You get a few goes and a bit of tuition and then at the end they do a competitive timed stage. No messing! None of this namby pamby track day "must not drive too hard" bullshit from track day "experiences"!

It's not cheap, but a highly recommended fun day if you like cars. I think we paid

I marshall at a few rally's and the old Escorts look the most fun of everything! Looks like brilliant fun, I reckon rally drivers have balls of steel, not sure I'd be brave enough!

Sounds like a great experience. Esp as you say you get to really thrash the cars and see what you can do.

best (and most scary) time I had in any car, was as a passenger in a mitsubishi WRC car doing a private test in the snow

Looks great

I go to the odd rally, and it amazes me just how competitive those Escorts still are, even up against 05 WRC cars!

My lottery winning plan has always been to get a decent rally car and get a license!

Why wait for the lottery? How much do you think this costs?

Looks great - rallying has always appealed to me more than track stuff.

The Woman - more than I can currently afford! I could afford the day out, but running our own rally car costs an absolute bomb. I know some people who do it. One who I chat to now and then (name drop!) is Marcus Dodd. Top bloke. He explained the scale of costs to me once - hence its in the lottery category for me now
