F1: Bahrain Grand Prix SUNDAY

Tyne
Broadcast date/time: 12/03/2006 10:30
Duration: 180 mins
Category: Sport

Steve Rider presents live coverage of the race at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, as the season gets under way. World champion Fernando Alonso surprised everyone over the winter by announcing he will move to McLaren in 2007, but the Spaniard will be eager to prove he is still focused on the job in hand by bringing Renault home first and taking maximum points as he begins the defence of his crown. Commentary by Some tossa and A past it wanker.

I haven't watched any F1 for a few years, is it going to be remotely interesting this season?

If Rossi goes over for 2007 I'll definitely start watching that

Should be good - first race of the season always throws up some surprises!

Hope that the Ferrari's contiue their poor form, they truely are an annoying bunch of red tarts!

Well I'll be watching / listening to this one.

Trying to do a bit of research now, didn't realise the Japanese team Super Aguri have actually made it to be able to race

They're racing with a chassis that Arrows developed (but never tested) a couple of years back before they went bust. That'll be good then.

I dunno - sounds a bit complicated to me. And I quite liked the single lap qualifying, as it gave you a chance to see every car. Where it went wrong was having two sessions, either the largely pointless one to decide the running order, or the completely disasterous aggregate system. They should just use the practice lap times to set the order, and give everyone one lap on Saturday IMO.

Good to see tyre changes back though. Part of the spectacle was missing last year.
