I'd push pretty hard on this. For a complete unit failure you should be able to push them into a buy back of the car.

Stick to your guns. Try through the dealer first then try pushing directly with Honda UK

Too late to reject in my view under sale of goods act. Push for new car regardless.

Been in to the dealer today to collect personal effects from the car.
Sales manager says if the dealer principle and HUK can sort something out re a new car, then he is more than happy to sell this one on the forecourt with the new engine.
One of the other staff in the dealers said they would push for a replacement car !
My wife is not happy to continue driving the car as apart from this major engine issue it has already been back to the dealer twice for minor niggles.
Hope to hear something early next week.

Update..........
Great result, wife picks up a new Civic next week !!!!!!!

Ive had no contact with HUK, the dealer couldnt have been more helpful and was completely on our side.
Thanks for everyones support and advice on here.

Good result!

Given the relative rarity of these things, it seems Honda can 'pay up & look big' whereas some of the EU manufacturers have to say 'non' to everything, for fear of going bust.
