Why is it such an insane idea? Plan was to grab a secure car park and dump the car for 24 hours while we do whatever it is my missus wants to do in Paris before continuing the journey.

I've done roughly 400 miles (Reims to Valence, south of Lyon) in a day, and it was fine, even in some torrential rain.

The journey back was done after having DJed a wedding from midnight to 6am, and I left at 1pm the following day. All very straightforward really.

Just stop off for fuel every time you see a Shell station and it'll give you a good break.

With two drivers, it'd be a breeze.

Have done it 4 x now in the S - all non-stop on the south bound and it is a loooong way. Was by necessity a direct trip but would recommend 1 x overnight stop even if in a hurry. Also a passenger to get the tolls as it's a pain climbing over the passenger seat!

If at all possible take your time and enjoy
If you climb over the passenger seat, you may even scuff the alloys!

I used to drive round Europe going to racetracks in a Mercedes Sprinter van and I used to reckon you could average 56mph over a 10 hour day (almost exactly Calais to Mont Blanc) on the French motorways.

Nurburgring -> Leeds in a day - just under 600 miles

doable

this seems to have deteriorated into some kind of p*ssing contest

of course you can drive 1000 miles in a day

BUT

do you want the drive to be relaxing and fun?
are you taking into account unfamiliarity with the roads/wrong side of the road etc?
do you want need a day or so to recover from the drive?
are you accustomed to 500+ mile 'non-stop' drives?

the answers to these questions are far more important than a simplistic "how far can you drive in a day?"

Fair point.

I do 600 miles nurburgring to leeds. And i'm usually pretty bushed.

I usually do a stop overnight somewhere.

But I find 400 miles (motorway) fine.

I've done 350 miles non motorway, which whilst great fun, left me more knackered than 600 miles motorway.

And 150 miles on a track in a day is a killer.

All in an S. The distances increase a bit in the M3 before I'm knackered.

I have done 750 across France in the S in one day and TBH it was just a little too far for comfort. Normally in a fast car in Europe I would limit my driving to 500 miles a day.

I have Paris blocked out on my Sat nav. Never go through it. Spent enough time in taxis there and know I wouldnt want to drive through it

If I was you I would take an early crossing and then blat it down to Dijon area where you can get there for early afternoon. Have the night there and then in the morning take on the drive to the coast.

Forget who it was here who put me on to the chateaux there but there is a lovely place out of town to stay in which I can dig out if you need it.
