Have to say that I have never been in a car driven by someone who was over the limit and never will. One of the guys at work used to do it sometimes if he went out at lunch time for a few drinks, but with a bit of luck since he got together with his missus, he's stopped doing it

I'm in a rural area and it still happens a lot.

Mainly with the older generation though. Younger people seem to have got the message, certainly in our area.

Stayed in a few hotels where the clientèle have to drive to get to the pub, sometimes the local constabulary are in too, country life Eh.
Welsh borders is an area that it's particularly prevalent. Everyone lives miles from the pub and no public transport/ taxis. You can't do anything but.
You can't have a designated driver if you are the only person that lives at the end of the lane 5 miles away from anyone else!
The saving grace being that there is no one else on the road to hit.
I'll have one drink then go onto soft drinks/water if I'm driving.

Do you mean drink any alcohol at all then drive, 1 pint for example?

I'll have a pint and a half over three hours with a bite to eat

wouldn't think twice about driving after that

been breathalysed a few times in those circumstances

easy pass

I am very wary of morning afters though

I'd want 24 hrs bottle to throttle after a session

I am these days but I was completely ignorant of it when I was younger. It makes me shudder to think how many times I drove when I probably would have been over the limit.

A friend of mine got done a while back (stupid, stupid one off mistake) and he said the amount of morning after's on the obligatory course was frightening.

Very common round here, young and old.

Shockingly so actually. But the attitude hasn't changed much from 20 years ago, when I and my 3 mates used to rotate the 'designated driver' role, and were very much in the minority among the people I grew up with.

In fact, as a teenager I remember finding the village bobby fast asleep in his upside down panda car having left the pub drunk the night before. I helped him turn the car back onto it's wheels. No idea what he told his bosses happened but I can guarantee it wasn't the truth.
