Do people still drink drive these days?
Now I know that in my earlier years, drink driving was fairly common.
I remember being driven back from Donington park by a mates dad who'd spent all day drinking beer in the hospitality suite.
He was all over the road but we all lived in the countryside and there were less cars back then. I was proper shit scared but didn't say anything cos I was only about 14 and in them days, we wouldn't dream of saying something like that to a grown up. Not an excuse for his drink driving, I know, but it was just something that was just done.
These days I don't know anyone who ever goes out who may even stand a chance of being over the limit (although a few who probably were the morning after a night out).
Now is it just because I now live in a different area and we're 30 years on or is drink driving much less common these days?

Yep, drink driving is alive and well ... in fact flourishing - and yes, more so where people think there is little chance they will get caught !
Morning after is the one that catches people out - lots ! Drink through the evening and go to a club .... you will more than likely still be over at 11am or later the next day !!
I have taken in a postman who blew double the drink drive limit at 10.30am after an evening drinking that ended at midnight ....

Commonplace in the North West Highlands of Scotland where there is negligible local polis IME.
My first trip up the far north I had a long interesting chat with a local about my car and other things - he even came out and had a seat, showed him the revcounter etc ("shiny shiny" ). In the course of the evening I saw him down several pints, and I couldn't believe it when he wandered off outside (not all that steady on his feet) - the car leaving the car park could only have been his.
That and the deer is a good enough reason not to drive after dark up there

As above, my experience is that it is common place in rurual areas.
West wales is the worst I have seen. Nightclubs in the middle of no-where and barely a taxi in sight!

If the plod waited outside the local golf club of a saturday evening i'm pretty sure the golf widows would be driving their hubbies to and from the club for the next year!
