Default Do motorbikes aquaplane ?

Just wondered cause coming home from work tonight it was dumping it down and a 'touring' bike infront of me was doing 90 ish MPH.

The Dual carraigeway was dark so he wouldn't have seen a large puddle.

I've never driven a bike in the wet and my Merc felt a bit 'loose' on the roundabouts.

i would guess so but as the tyres

a. much narrower
b. rounded

they will be more efficient at preventing water build up than car tyres so imagine the speed is higher

but having said that 90 might be asking for trouble!

It would take a very high speed or a very deep puddle to aquaplane a bike.

Doing 90MPH when it is pissing it down is not clever as visibilty can be severely impaired in such conditions.

Yes is the answer to your question.

You would have to be riding fairly fast, i.e. over the limit.

have ridden quite happily at 130mph whilst raining cats and dogs. Brand new tyres though. bike felt solid enough, but french main roads are often better than ours for dispersing water.

on reflection bit fool hardy, but hey a dozen of us heading down to B'ol Dor kinda egged each other on.

I think french rivers probably disperse water better than our roads.

Why do we have to put up with such crap surfaces?

At elvington a couple of years back , it had been pissing down and the track had many puddles .

A mate decided it was never going to dry if nobody ran so went up and took a first run , he was told to take it steady and do a sighting lap ,

So you can imagine , being a commercial pilot , obviously very sensible , sets off

Didnt hear the bike back off at all , first run 187 mph ,

he didnt have any problems with aquaplaning , the bike just had this huge rooster tail following him
