I like the idea of these cams...but I'm not sure I want my own "indiscretions" recorded....Having said that, I read somewhere that they can only be used in court if they have GPS installed?

Irrelevant. Evidence is evidence whatever the form. The veracity can always be put in dispute by legal argument but it's still evidence gps or not. These devices can be known to fail you know....

I have a Mio MiVue with a 64Gb card in it - got me £50 discount off the Aygo insurance and it's hardwired into that. Tucked away next to the rear view mirror and NOT in my FOV. It has a speed camera warning database as well which is handy.

It is solely for the purpose of recording any potential accident and nothing else - the standard of driving these days on a commute is so bad that's not worth not having one.

All people should get one for what is essentially a quarter of even the lowest excess.
I had my mirror knocked off by a lorry - the driver lied on his insurance claim and it ended up 50/50 with a strike against my no-claims plus I had to pay the excess. If I'd had a dash-cam all would have been good.

They look pretty good ... Halfords are doing 10% off everything today between 12-2pm which means you can pick up a Mio MiVue 518 for £73.

The Camera I was using on my bike was/is an Ion Air Pro 3.

Originally I had a speed pro, but complained to the CIO of ION UK that his company wasn't looking after it's customers correctly, so he gave me one of these

Car wise I'd have to recommend the Mobius cam. It's brilliant and the one I used on my push bike. 5 min clips, start recording upon ignition switch on/power and overwrite facility. <£50 too.

Hey-Ho.

Camera being returned to Amazon; the thing crashes after 6 minutes and refuses to restart until left for a few hours.

Seems these particular cameras have a variable reliability record.

May have a look at a MiVue.
