Just had a call from the police at the place of incident, they are going to ask my local police to take a statement. At least they are arguing between themselves now, rather than leaving me as the go between!
I guess if they could at least section 59 him (if possible) that would mean if he is caught doing similar in the future he could have his car removed. Although to be honest I think it was more than "causing distress of annoynance". At least his registration details would be known to police, this is what I am hoping for, otherwise the whole exercise will be a waste of both my time and police time.

definitely the right thing to report it and get a reference
just as important to follow it up and find out what has been done - in writing
it could nip this person's behaviour in the bud and save someone else from something worse down the line
if it doesn't, it might still help the Police in the future
on the general matter of road ragers, I find they always have to have a reason for for going ape (however crazy)
I can't remember an occasion where I've encountered it when I've just been pootling along minding my own business
then again, I'm not a single woman in a car on her own at night

I understand what you are saying about there normally being some kind of reason for it, I can only think he just really didn't want to let me out...fine. But then why drop back and then accelerate towards me when I pull out. I think in his mind, this meant I cut him up, hence his ridiculous behaviour.

It's even worse if you overtake them in a Civic Vti; they cannot STAND the thought that a woman in an old Honda might have a faster car than their company cancer wagon.
It's usually male losers, although occasionally these days you get females thinking they can lay down the law on the road.

Single woman in a RED SPORTS CAR on her own at night. That's enough to wind some people up. Remember he has been driving right next to me for some time, so would have had a good look at his "victim".

in the past I have got 'mad' when I've flashed people to move in/out/forwards/sideways, etc and they've been so engrossed in doing their makeup or taking to their passenger that they haven't seen it
meanwhile, I'm maybe holding up traffic
so you give up, move forward and then they drive across the front of you
however, I don't then follow them for miles!
no, I'm sure anything you did wrong was manufactured
there are some right nut jobs out there
what was the age/type of car?

It has crossed my mind that it might have been one of those "car crash insurance fraud scams" Especially because he seemed to want me to run into the back of him.
I know Nottingham has a particular problem with it. I wouldn't have thought even those types would have risked a high speed crash though.
