It's a conversation obviously we had in the car last night while we drove the same route. It is a red route but the part of the A17 near Tilbury All Saints were we got caught is a straight road with clear views but this is probably why there is a camera van there (and the bar steward was there yesterday as well!).

Our conversation went along the lines of if they know it's a red route and people get frustrated at the amount of lorries / tractors on there and potentially do stupid overtakes, why don't they make parts of it dual carriageway like they do in Cumbria. At least that way you see a sign saying dual carriageway 1 mile and you think 'well I'll wait then'. Much safer than sticking a van there.

I think if we had been stopped by a traffic cop we would have gotten off less points as they could clearly have seen what we were doing and that we reduced our speed as soon as we got in front of the BMW. Cameras just show car and speed - end of.
first - good to hear the punishment was within tolerable limits

I think you are probably right about what might have happened if it had been trafpol (although perceived flashy motors can wind some of them up)

the arbitrary nature of cameras is a joke

how can (in the majority of cases) the risk be the same on a road 24 hours a day?

whenever I drive any distance nowadays (unfamiliar roads = biggest risk of falling foul of scameras) my plates seem to get covered in mud

possibly illegal, but it's difficult to clean them on the move and I've never known anyone done for it yet

on a 500 mile round trip I'd take the chance of a tug for dirty plates over a camera flash any day

I defy anybody on here to say "I have never exceeded the speed limit", I'm with BoM, much rather speed slightly when overtaking to reduce the time spent on the wrong side of the road.
I was done for speeding in the company van on xmas eve, it took till about 3rd week in January for notification to reach me, for weeks after I spent as much time watching the speedo as the road, need a beeper as per the civic to warn of excessive speed.

'94mph whilst overtaking'

Okay, thats the point Nottm. I guess it was a single road.

Do you think thats okay? And what has me owning a sports car
or coming on a sports car forum got to do with my question.

Im 44 not 14.

you dont need 240 bhp

why did you buy a car that will do 150mph, that will exceed the limt in sub 10s?

crazy days

and yes, i think its fine to me 140 in appropriate conditions may be fine too

As mentioned previous, looking at getting cruise control and Gaspode found a company near to use that does it for a reasonable price:

Unbelievable (and trust you to post a BBC news item )

So should we go for bomb disposal or escaping paparazzi a'la Ashley Cole?
Only just read this Thread, and a very interesting read it is too. To redress the balance with the Bomb Disposal chap, I used to work with one guy who was caught drink driving. When he went to court he spoke about how he was a qualified Blue Light/Advanced driver. When the Judge gave his punishment he said he was proposing a years ban but seeing how the guy was a Blue Light driver, he should have known better and gave him 2 years. Karma.
